They are a series of blessings that describe the characteristics and attitudes that are valued in the Kingdom of God. So, while the beatitudes contain blessings, they are not the same as blessings. The beatitudes are more like a set of guidelines for living a blessed and fulfilling life, while blessings are the actual state of being favored or receiving divine favor. **
